Day 20 and 21: heading home

Sadly we've come to the end of our epic African adventure. We've had so many highlights. It seems so long ago we arrived in Cape Town.

So here are a few of our highlights:

1) dyer island cruise

This day was just amazing. Seeing our first whale in the wild, let alone the seals, sharks and peguins. What a great day!

2) lions head at sunrise

This was simply beautiful with an amazing view over the city of Cape Town.

3) dune 45 in the Namibian desert

After waking up in our favourite camp site, we climbed due 45 at sunrise, looking over the beautiful Namibian desert.

4) etosha national park

Going on a real safari is something I've wanted to do since I was a child. It was everything I dreamed of and more. Such a fantastic experience.

5) the watering hole on our last night.

Sadly we have no pics, but our last night in etosha when we saw the family of rhinos at the watering hole was amazing.

Other best bits!!

Best meal: - willougbys in Cape Town for the amazing seafood

Fave camp site: - sossusvlei in the Namibian desert

Best coffee: truth in Cape Town

Best night sleep: first night glamping in Windhoek

Biggest regret: not booking the longer tour up to Victoria falls

We'd also like to say, the people we spent the overlanding trip with were absolutely awesome. The guides. The tents. The food. The whole thing was great and we couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Day 18 and 19: getting to Windhoek

We sadly packed up our tent in the middle of etosha national park and headed out, with a few more rhino and elephant sightings before leaving the park towards windhoek.

We stopped again at outjo for a snack at the bakery and refuelling of the truck.

It was another 3 - 4 hours till we arrived in Windhoek. Spotting baboons crossing the road, and tons of warthogs lining the roads.

We arrived at urban camp where we'd be staying for two nights. We had organised to stay in one of the glamping tents which were simply lovely!

We then chilled by the pool and got ready for our final meal with the group at joes beer house - the largest restaurant in Africa. They served zebra steaks, oryx burgers and what not.

These Aussie girls have become firm friends, and are my Sri Lanka buddies for next year!

This lovely Aussie family were really inspirational bringing 3 of they're children with them! Rob also played mentor to Stevie for some of the trip!

Leigh basically adopted Stevie because he reminded her of her son!

We headed back to urban camp for a couple more drinkies and chatting into the night. We've made some fantastic friends on this trip.

After an amazing night sleep in a huge bed with heated blanket and double pillows we awoke to say farewell to our friends.

The rest of the trip and headed up to Victoria falls in Zimbabwe via the kalahari desert and Okavango delta in Botswana.

The rest of the day was spent lazing around the pool in the scorching sunshine, both firmly in the shade. There wasn't much to see in Windhoek so we decided a chill day was needed.

We had a yummy dinner at urban camp and had a great last night sleep.
